Overview

The UK’s largest public procurement organisation appointed Internet Videocommunications to provide consultancy, design, installation and support for their new direction to provide a ‘Smarter Working’ environment within their offices in Newport, Liverpool and Norwich.

  • Many of the meeting locations were in the central areas of the city with limited parking or access and therefore it was imperative from a project standpoint that equipment deliveries were pre-booked and scheduled with the client, prior to arrival.
  • Internet Videocommunications engineers encountered many areas of the  offices that were still under construction.
  • Many of the meeting rooms could not accommodate a small rack or AV cabinet to house the additional technology.
  • Standard digital cables not providing the professional standards required that could have caused image display problems further down the line. The main challenge encountered was with the very small containment.
  • The offices having glazed wall panels to allow natural light to flow more freely around the office floor. Unfortunately this can be a great conflict for meeting rooms, where reverberation times (RT) and audio echo caused by hard surfaces bouncing audio around, need to be greatly controlled within each environment.

Solution

  • Care was taken to understand the sensitivities around other tenants that occupied the building and again Internet Videocommunications would ensure deliveries or movement of technology to and within the building were conducted at times of minimal disruption.
  • Decisions were quickly made with the client in regard to ensuring installation and risk within meeting rooms, to ensure the new technology would not be implemented within a dusty and unsuitable area, which may invalidate equipment warranties. Less sensitive equipment was covered and secured to ensure that any practical completion works on the building areas (snagging), could be completed whilst IV installation engineers could continue to work and maintain the project schedule.
  • Internet Videocommunications provided accurate details to the builder for the remaining office locations, in regard to suitable containment within the walls, not only for the main installation but for future-proofing. This was carried out in the 2 remaining locations, ensuring a swifter installation could be conducted.
  • Internet Videocommunications’ engineers, needed to create and add some slim-line cable and equipment management systems neatly behind the display screens to ensure not only accessibility but that none of the technology could be detected behind the display, creating a more minimalist feel to the meeting space. It has always been the policy of IV to ensure that the technology works in harmony with the aesthetics of the meeting rooms, rather than being an overwhelming feature of the space.
  • Internet Videocommunications’ design and consulting team, worked with the CCS to provide advice on how to dampen down more lively rooms that were constructed predominantly of glass or hard walls but also implemented acoustic ceiling panels (or wall panels where possible) and heavy drape fabric blinds, to absorb much of the unwanted reverberated audio.

What the Client Says

“Following extensive renovation to the office sites at Liverpool, Newport and Norwich, technology has played an important role in the successful implementation of Smarter Working. This has created an improved and consistent user experience across all locations and delivered tangible and intangible benefits to overall work productivity, efficiency and providing satisfaction.”
